It’s easy to forget that Montana is a border state, but we suffer from problems tied to illegal immigration and human trafficking just like other border states. To help address this, I sponsored and passed House Bill 278 during the 2025 session, which permits Montana law enforcement officers to check immigration status in certain circumstances. However, a radical group is suing to block the legislation, placing the interests of illegal immigrants and human traffickers above the safety of Americans.
